Timber doors are a great choice for all kinds of internal settings and can dramatically enhance the aesthetics of rooms. You can choose from a wide range of timbers, each with their own unique colours and grains, which means you can select the right one for every space. Whether you opt for light or dark timber, hard or soft wood, the benefits for your property are easy to see.

Wooden doors need to be taken care of if you want them to maintain their natural beauty. This means monitoring the condition of the wood and ensuring you treat them periodically to keep them fresh and protected from moisture, dust and other contaminants. Luckily there are a wide range of different products so you can do just that, including various types of oil and wax.

Before you finish timber doors, you need to prepare the surface so it will accept the new coating. To start with, it is a good idea to wash the door with water or a weak solution of mild detergent. This will help to draw the dirt out more effectively than sanding on its own. Remember not to use too much water and give the door time to dry properly before you move on to sanding.

When it is time to sand, you need to use a fine grade suitable for the particular timber you are working on. The sanding will remove old paint and varnish, as well as grease and dust. This preparation also helps the timber to absorb the new coating so it will look better once finished. Remember to wipe the door after sanding to remove any dust that could still be on the surface. Preparing the door is very important and will harm the finish if you don't do it properly.
